Lobenberg: 65% Semillon und 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Die Sauvignon Blanc macht den ersten, wunderschönen, floralen, durchaus frischen Angang in der Nase. Dann kommt reiche, dichte, unglaublich aromatische Semillon. Das ganze Sammelsurium von Exotik, aber auch Steinobst, Melone, Passionsfrucht. So fein, vibrierend. Was für eine traumhafte Nase. Das ist eine Riesling Beerenauslese der feinsten Art mit mehr Alkohol. Das hat das Niveau einer Egon Müller Spätlese in der Nase. Mit dieser berauschenden Feinheit und gleichzeitig Wucht. Der Mund zeigt feine Bitterstoffe neben der reichen Frucht. Süße Orange, Orangenschalen und dann als Majorität reife Mango bis zum Abwinken. Leichte Säure von Passionsfrucht kommt durch. Mango und Passionsfrucht ist die große Dominante. Dahinter ein bisschen Aprikose, Orangenschale. Süß aber hervorragend balanciert durch feine Säure. Das ist ein Ereignis. Ein Ereignis was sicherlich explosive Preise hat. Ein großer Yquem und 2021 hat über seine Frische und Spannung eoinen ganz ewigenen Charakter, ganz anders alös die frü+heren 100 Punkte-Jahrg#änge weniger über die GHenerösität und Opulenz kommend, eher über unglaublich trinkige Frische und Rasse! Deshalb best ever und ganz groß für mich! 100+/100

Jahrgangsbericht

Wie in den meisten Regionen Europas lautet der Tenor auch in Bordeaux »2021 - zurück zur Klassik!«. Nach mehreren warmen Jahren in Folge kommt 2021 hier mit genialer kühler Eleganz und niedrigen Alkoholwerten um die Ecke. Sehr schick, fein, dabei aber auch so spannungsgeladen – ein absolutes Traumjahr für Finesse-Trinker. Die Weine zeigen viel aromatischen Fruchtdruck bei wirklich reifer Tanninstruktur durch die längere Vegetationsperiode. Ein großes Aufatmen unter allen Winzern, denn das Ergebnis ist quasi die Entschädigung für die harte Arbeit im Weinberg, die die Natur von Anfang bis Ende des Jahres von allen Beteiligten abverlangt hat. Hohe Niederschläge zu Beginn des Jahres, was gleichzeitig aber auch ein Segen für die trockenen Böden war. Dann nochmal ein Temperaturtief im April, schon nach dem Austrieb. Das Bordelais hat es aber nicht ganz so hart getroffen, die Frostschäden waren hier im Mittel nicht so verheerend wie in anderen Teilen Frankreichs, deshalb sind die Erträge insgesamt doch noch zufriedenstellend. Der Merlot ist außerordentlich edel, mit bemerkenswert konzentrierter Frucht, während der Cabernet unglaublich intensiv und frisch ist, was dem Jahrgang große Eleganz verleiht. Vielleicht in einer Reihe mit 2008, 2012 und 2014 mit seinen jung schon so verführerisch zugänglichen Weinen, die aber auch noch eine lange Zukunft vor sich haben.

Suckling über: Chateau Yquem 1er Cru Superieur

-- Suckling: Dreamy, subtle aromas of dried fruit such as apricots and mangoes, but also fresh lemons and pears. Then there are caramel and tart tatin undertones with some bananas, pineapple, tangerines and other tropical fruit. Full-bodied, yet it remains vivid and compact, giving it a lightness even though it is really structured. The tannins are throughout the palate but blend in perfectly, giving it a solid presence, like a a diamond. It’s tight at the end, but you know that it will linger for ages, with a lightly chewy and intellectual finish. Touches of sweetness, cloves and bitterness to make it interesting. Dynamic. About 54,000 bottles made. Relatively small harvest. 148 g/L residual sugar.

-- Colin Hay: Tutankhamun gold, maybe a hint of buttercup. I find this more direct and intense than the 2020. Yet this is also a wine that exudes balance and harmony, even at this nascent stage. Beautifully limpid and with a disguised natural power. Supremely aerial. Green apple skin. Saffron. Fresh ginger. A hint of confit ginger too. Lime. White grapefruit. A touch of fleur de sel. Marzipan. White almonds. Mango. Guava. Passionfruit. Pineapple – entirely pure and crisply fresh. All in great purity. This is floral, too. Mimosa. Buttercup (almost the leitmotif here). On the palate I find this tight and tense, yet so incredibly softly textured. And, above all, intense and captivating. Sparklingly striking and dynamic – and held together by the salinity as much as by the acidity, the two in fact working together, giving this an incredible aging potential. Delicate in its intensity. Sapid and with lovely waves of saline-inflected juicy fluidity. Even now this is a wine of very considerable complexity – built from assembling the finest botrytised grapes from the best of the couronne (the crown) of Bommes (with the Château of Yquem at the epicentre). This finishes with the most glorious bitter sugar note – burnt caramel just perfectly on the edge of bitterness. So accessible but so totally ageless and, for now, almost cool in its freshness. 99/100

-- Wine Cellar Insider: The complex aromatic profile explodes from the glass with pineapple, papaya, apricot, Meyer lemon, tangerine peels, caramel, honey, vanilla, saffron, cashews, and candied grapefruit in the aromatic profile. The palate resides perfectly in the middle of hedonism, and vibrancy. Clearly, there is ample sweetness, but the racy acidity provides incredible lift, energy, and length. The fruit expresses purity in its tangerines, oranges, mango, papaya, banana, and pineapples all slathered in honey. This is one of those Yquem's that can be enjoyed either as a sweet wine, or due to its vibrancy, with a diverse array of savory, and spicy dishes. Produced from a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, 148 Grams per liter, 14% ABV, 3.79 pH. Yields were only 8 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place over an extended time, September 12 - October 27, with 4 passes in total. As you can see, the harvest was quite long, but picking the heart of vintage took place mid-to late October. Drink from 2027-2075. 98/100

-- Quarin: Goldene, glänzende Farbe. Sehr aromatische Nase, fein, subtil, edel und komplex. Zarter Hauch von Vanille beim Schwenken des Glases. Der Mund ist magisch! Dies ist ein Weißwein, bevor er ein likörartiger Weißwein wird. Sehr edle Textur. Ausgezeichnete Aromen. Schönes Relief zwischen Mitte und Abgang. Eine große Länge. Einfach unaussprechlich! Und für die Allgemeinbildung: ein Ausbau in 100 % neuem Holz, der unmöglich zu erkennen ist. Assemblage: 65 % Semillon, 35 % Sauvignon. Alkoholgehalt: 13°9 - pH-Wert: 3,79. -- Lisa Perrotti Brown: The 2021 d'Yquem is composed of 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. It has 148 grams per liter of residual sugar, making for a relatively rich style and the sweetest Yquem since 2017. Pale lemon-gold colored, perfumed notes of orange peel, juicy peaches, grapefruit, and honeycomb slowly emerge from the glass, followed by suggestions of jasmine tea, fresh ginger, and lime blossoms. The palate is fantastically satiny, with great tension and loads of spicy sparks complementing the citrusy flavors, finishing with epic length and a zesty lift. 54,000 bottles were made. The alcohol is 13.9%, and the pH is 3.79. 97/100

-- Jancis Robinson: Beautiful primary fruit boasting tropical complexity: mango, pineapple. Saltiness, according to the winemaker – and there is definitely savoury contrast in there. The marvel of this wine is its completeness – the stitching is so fine between the sugar, acidity, rich fruit and length. Opens up in the glass, with white chocolate, caramel, clotted cream, mixed peel, five-spice. As prestigious as ever, and so gratifying to drink right now. 19/20

-- Weingut: 2021 Château d’Yquem displays almond notes on the nose, mingled with refreshing hints of cedar, pineapple, pear, Agen plum and mandarin orange. Aromas of candied orange and lemon gradually come to the fore, underpinned by intense floral notes of gardenia and broom flowers.2021 Château d’Yquem is very lively on the palate. It starts out fresh then becomes rich and concentrated mid-palate, making for a perfectly well-balanced wine with incredible finesse. Its powerful structure is prolonged by a touch of candied bitterness, leading into a long, suave finish.Spring 2021 put winegrowers to the test by confronting them with all the risks inherent in winegrowing: frost, hail and mildew. Thankfully, Yquem’s unique geographical location helped to preserve its great terroirs.From June to September, the grapes benefited from cool weather and moderate drought periods, bestowing the wines with superb acidity.Then the Botrytis cinerea miracle came into play!Two rainy spells in mid-September and early October were conducive to the spread of noble rot throughout the vineyards, while a magnificent three-week window of fine weather marked by cool, dry and sunny conditions slowly concentrated the grapes.This optimum weather allowed the harvest to unfold in complete serenity, in three successive passes, between 30 September and 30 October.The full aromatic profile of Botrytis cinerea was thus revealed in what can be described as an incredibly pure vintage.
