Lobenberg: Auch dieser Spitzenwein der Egurens entstammt nur einem Weingarten, der aber deutlich größer (10 ha) ist, als die Geburtsorte der anderen Spitzenweine. Dies ist vielleicht der maskulinste aller Weine dieses pausenlos nach Qualität strebenden Winzerclans. Blaubeerige Aromen, Sandelholz, Teer und Anklänge an schwarze Trüffel sind am Ende des langen Strukturtunnels zu sehen. Nach einigen Minuten werden die Aromen immer deutlicher, obwohl die Kraft nur ein wenig nachgelassen hat. Die gesamte Stilistik deutet auf wahre Größe hin. Dieser Wein gehört zu den langlebigsten und beeindruckendsten Spaniens überhaupt und zeigt uns, wie nahe ein Rioja einem 1er Cru aus Bordeaux kommen kann. 97+/100

-- Galloni: A distinctive, nuanced and tasty Rioja with a modernist touch, the 2020 Amancio is 100% Tempranillo sourced from the La Veguilla vineyard in San Vicente de La Sonsierra. Aged for 26 months in new French oak barrels, this reductive purplish wine features notes of matchstick, damp earth, candied sour cherry and plum, complemented by balsamic hints. Dry and compact, the chalky palate soars with a substantial flow, lingering on the fruity finish. The 2020 is a masterclass in winemaking finesse, showcasing Marcos Eguren's skill in handling Tempranillo with care to achieve elegance.

Parker über: Amancio

-- Parker: The single-vineyard 2020 Amancio comes from grapes selected from 16.5 hectares in the zone of La Veguilla in San Vicente de la Sonsierra at 490 meters above sea level. The grapes were hand destemmed, one by one, and fermented in 500-liter oak barrels and two 1,000-liter oak vats after a five-day cold soak. It matured in new French oak barriques for 18 months. It has contained ripeness, good freshness and balance but suffers in the comparison with other wines from 2021. Then the warmer year comes through in the shape of riper fruit and less perfect tannins. There’s a little more rusticity and earthiness and perhaps a little faster development. The oak also seems to have had a stronger impact on the aromatics here. 4,000 bottles were filled in May 2023. 94/100

-- Wine Spectator: Dense and finely knit, this powerful red nonetheless shows a sense of restraint. The velvety texture delivers flavors of baked cherry and mulberry fruit, herbed olive and game, with fragrant notes of coffee, licorice, vanilla and tar. Shows good focus through the long, lightly spiced finish. Best from 2027 through 2035.

-- Tim Atkin: Amancio comes from an extensive 16-hectare parcel that was planted between 35 and 80 years ago in the San Vicente de la Sonsierra sub-zone of La Veguilla. Aromatic, detailed and well structured, it has plenty of coffee bean and cigar box oak, impressive focus and freshness for a 2020, plum, black cherry and mulberry flavours and smooth, supple, palate- coating tannins. 2025-32 93/100
