1990: Zusammen mit Latour und Cheval Blanc für mich klar der beste Wein des Jahrgangs, ein Meilenstein! 100/100 *** 2000: Dicht, dunkel, sehr konzentriert, vielleicht der konzentrierte Superstar des Jahrgangs, trotz der satten Tannine charmant und superlang. 100/1000 *** 2010 : Lobenberg: 87,2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12,8% Merlot. Schwarz mit rotviolettem Rand, glänzend. Sehr rassige Cabernetnase mit Cassis, roter Johannisbeere und Kirsche, aber auch schwarze Frucht dazu zeigend. Nur ein Hauch Paprika, Brombeere, wieder viel Cassis, rote Johannisbeere, Zwetschge, Bitterschokolade, Zedern, kubanischer Tabak. Leichter Brombeerhauch, ein Hauch von gelber Frucht, Mango. Sehr duftig, hocharomatisch. Cabernet pur und immens Rasse anzeigend. Unerwartet fein im Mund. Auch hier sehr viel Rasse, schwarze und rote Frucht. Der Wein tänzelt, hat Länge, macht viel Freude. Weit weg von den beiden vorigen Jahrgängen, speziell vom 2009er. 2010 herrscht Rasse vor und Feinheit. Glyzerin und Alkohol dominieren nicht, obwohl reichlich vorhanden. Der Alkoholgehalt ist mit 13,5% recht moderat. Der Wein fängt als ein erhabener großer Wein an im Mund, und wird immer feiner und finessereicher und endet mit großer Länge und Feinheit. Gegen die Erwartung des Jahrgangs viel feiner, viel finessereicher als 2009, ein großes feines Jahr für Lafite, ein Lafite in Perfektion. 100/100

-- Parker: 1990: Interestingly, a bottle of 1990 Lafite Rothschild I pulled from my cellar for a video blog on my web site was still buttoned down, tight, and even with extended decanting was not showing as much as I would have hoped. However, a bottle tasted, of all places, in Seoul, Korea in February, was only a few points short of perfection. That amazing performance motivated me to pull another bottle out of my cellar and follow it over the course of two days. Sure enough, by the second day the wine was roaring from the glass. The 1990 Lafite has turned out far better than my early assessment. While it still possesses some firmness, and performs like a late adolescent in terms of its evolution, it boasts gorgeous aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, cassis, and lead pencil shavings. The explosive aromas are followed by a fleshy, full-bodied wine that should hit its peak in 5-8 years, and last for 25-30 more. 96/100 *** 2000: Well, well, well - Lafite Rothschild does it again. Ever since manager Charles Chevalier was transferred from his beloved Sauternes property of Rieussec (also owned by the Rothschilds) to Lafite in 1994, there has been a succession of profound wines to emerge from this noble estate. The 2000 Lafite Rothschild, a blend of 93.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6.7% Merlot (only 36% of the crop made the grade) has an opaque ruby/purple color, followed by an extraordinary aromatic expression of liquid minerals/stones interwoven with the tell-tale graphite notes, mulberry, black currants, caramel, and tobacco. In the mouth, it is remarkably light on its feet, but somehow seems to pack intense flavors into layer upon layer of fruit and richness that cascade over the palate. A compelling wine, with extraordinary precision, great intensity, and a seamlessness in spite of what are obviously elevated levels of tannin, this wine was provocatively open and beautiful when tasted in January and February, but I am sure it will soon close down. The finish lasted a whopping 72 seconds! This is utterly fascinating stuff. 100/100 *** 2010 : Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Lafite Rothschild is a little mute on the nose at this stage, opening to reveal warm blackcurrants, baked plums and boysenberry scents with hints of chocolate mint, violets, cedar chest and pencil lead. Full-bodied, rich and densely packed with perfumed black fruit layers, it has a rock-solid backbone of fantastically ripe, grainy tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing very long and minerally. Still very youthful! 100/100

-- Suckling: 2000 : The nose is fresh, bright, and dense. With aromas of violets, minerals, spices, cool stones, mint, dark fruits, and plum skins, this is beautiful. Very much still a baby right now, it needs much more time. This is a wine for the next generation. Finesse and elegance, truly a wine that makes you contemplate life. This is not about power, there is really nothing like it. 100/100 *** 2010: Believe the hype. Lafite is perfect in 2010. The nose is amazing with sweet tobacco, dark chocolate and currants. It is amazing. It’s like gazing into the blue sky in wonder after tasting this young wine. Full and powerful with amazing minerals, currants and bitter chocolate. It starts off slowly and then finishes with a bang. This is really layered and wonderful. It goes on and on. Stunning. 99/100

-- Falstaff: 1990: Kräftiges Rubingranat, gute Farbtiefe, violette Reflexe, zarter Wasserrand. In der Nase feines Cassis, Zwetschken, Tabak und ein Hauch von Trüffel, Rosinen, kandierte Orangen. Am Gaumen stoffig, komplexe Textur, eleganter Körper, präsente, straffe Tannine, rote Kirschenfrucht, etwas Veilchen und Veloursleder, finessenreich und gut anhaltend, feine Beerenfrucht im Nachhall, großes Entwicklungspotenzial, Wirkt immer noch ein wenig scheu, voll nobler Zurückhaltung, und man hat den Eindruck seine Tage sind nicht gekommen, sehr frisch und finessenreich. 98/100 *** 2000: Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Schwarze Früchte, etwas Zwetschge, feine Holzwürze, Edelschokolade, rauchige Mineralik. Am Gaumen völlig embryonal, verhalten, feine Würze, wirkt noch relativ streng und monolithisch, präsente Tannine, die Frucht ist angelegt, Nuancen vom vollreifen Cabernet Sauvignon, Noten von Cassis und Brombeeren, extraktsüß, gut anhaltend, sicheres Zukunftspotenzial, hat die erste Trinkreife noch nicht ganz erreicht. Die Geduld wird sich lohnen. 98/100 *** 2010 : Sehr dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe; kleine schwarze Beerenfrucht, ein Hauch von Grafit, zart nach Honig und Nougat, wirkt noch etwas verschlossen. Engmaschig, dunkleres Beerenkonfit, stramme, präsente Tannine, sehr gut strukturiert und anhaltend, kraftvoll und doch nicht üppig, bleibt sehr gut haften, ein großartiger, präziser Lafite, ein Vin de Garde, wird seinem hohen Anspruch vollends gerecht. 98-100/100
