Lobenberg: Sehr dunkles Rubinrot mit schwaren Reflexen. Schicke, angereifte Bordeaux-Nase mit feinem Unterholz-Charakter, Süß- und Sauerkirsche, Zwetschge, leichter Cassis, Lorbeer und Leder. Heller Tabak, etwas Zigarrenkiste. Im Mund gute Fülle von sattem Tannin und feinem Druck von salziger Mineralität. Feine Röstaromen, etwas Kaffee, heller Kakao und gegrillte Beerenaromatik. Zwetschgen- und Kirschsüße in der Gaumenmitte, dazu ein mittlerer Abgang. Insgesamt ganz ordentliche Balance. Ein klassisch-eleganter Lafon-Rochet aus den alten Zeiten, der sich jetzt mit gut 20 Jahren Reife auf dem Buckel in einem wunderbaren Trinkfenster befindet. Ein wirklich schicker Wein, ohne ganz groß zu sein.

-- Galloni: The 2005 Lafon-Rochet has a very expressive bouquet with raspberry, blackberry, briary, black pepper and light sous-bois scents. The palate is medium-bodied with tobacco-tinged red and black fruit, beautifully balanced with good substance. This is fresh and saline on the finish. The 2005 is a really superb Lafon-Rochet that will continue to drink well for several years. Tasted at the Lafon-Rochet vertical at the property.

-- Jane Anson: These were good years for Lafon Rochet, when it was a little under-the-radar but making good quality, consistent wine, and you'll find here classic, balanced, old-school St Estèphe flavours. Plenty of ripe red fruits, gentle wafts of blond tobacco aromatics, showcasing the balance and simple charms of the vintage. Tannins frame remains clear, and the acidity is just a little higher than ideal, but plenty of juice and character, and hard to argue with. Harvest September 19 to October 9, 3.6ph.

-- Parker: Tasted single blind at Southwold. This has a fine blackberry, cedar-infused nose with good definition - tightly coiled and certainly needing more time. Very good concentration, fine tannins, quite succulent for a Saint Estephe but very well poised with fine sense of mineralite on the finish. Imbued with femininity, which is unusual. Good depth and cohesion. This remains an excellent Lafon-Rochet although its still needs time. Drink 2015-2025. Tasted January 2009.

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Outstanding aromatics of darker currants, blackberries, spice, and saddle leather all emerge from the 2005 Château Lafon-Rochet, a medium to full-bodied, round, ripe, sexy Saint-Estephe that has beautiful fruit, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s drinking great today yet should have another 15+ years of prime drinking. It’s a beautiful wine that has tons of character.

Direkt neben Lafite-Rothschild und Cos d’Estournel liegen die 40 Hektar Rebfläche von Lafon Rochet. Die Familie Tesseron (Der Bruder des Besitzers von Pontet-Canet) hat das Gut in den 60er Jahren vollständig renovieren lassen und einige kellertechnische Neuerungen eingeführt.
