Heiner Lobenberg über:
Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A 2009

/100

Lobenberg: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc. 65% der Ernte gehen in den Erstwein. Schwarzrubin, violetter Rand. 100/100

Parker über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- Parker: Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Cheval Blanc offers up profound notions of baked blueberries, blackberry compote and crème de cassis with suggestions of chocolate mint, new leather and cloves plus a waft of candied violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in elegance with very classy, super fine-grained tannins, beautiful freshness and layer upon layer of mineral-laced blue and black fruits, finishing long and perfumed.

Gabriel über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

Jane Anson über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- Jane Anson: So good, it has been the benchmark Cheval Blanc for the past 15 years, and continues to deliver just exceptional quality. Lean in to the poised, confident ruby red fruits, pomegranate, loganberry, cassis, studded with cloves, turmeric, cappuccino and violet flowers, with an undertone of pulsing minerality. 50% new oak for ageing. Tasted alongside the rest of the lineup, and a reminder that in St Emilion when many estates were making winemaking choices led by the market, the best were focused on the voice of their own vineyard. This will age from here for decades, but it is already a pleasure to drink.

Jeb Dunnuck über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2009 Château Cheval Blanc continues to just blow me away every time I'm lucky enough to taste a bottle. It has that rare mix of elegance and power that can be hard to describe. Offering a massive bouquet of black cherry liqueur, flowery incense, crème de cassis, toasted spices, and forest floor, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a magical, seamless texture, and a great, great finish. Its tannins and structure are just now starting to emerge from under ample baby fat, but it still has incredible opulence and richness as well as flawless balance. Enjoy this masterpiece any time over the coming 20-30 years. 100/100

Decanter über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- Decanter: A profoundly generous wine with coffee grounds and patisserie notes revealing grilled oak that's subtle but extremely pleasing. The quality of the tannins is exceptional - they are drawn out, elongated and shrouded in smoke. Layer upon layer of complexity unfurls in the mouth, getting better and better, with tons of juicy black fruit. The liquorice is black and tight on the perfectly balanced finish right now, with sprinkles of star anise and a gentle lift of fresh mint. Give it a good few years before opening. 100/100

Wine Cellar Insider über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- Wine Cellar Insider: Clearly one of the great vintages of Cheval Blanc, this is one sexy wine. The wealth of sweet, ripe, pure fruits provides a hedonistic thrill ride with its multiple layers of dark red, and black fruits, earth, and spices. The seamless finish steals the show as it sticks with you and expands for over 60 seconds. Still in its infancy, the wine is already on the wine to greatness. This is so sensuous, you can enjoy it now. But its best days are clearly in its long future. Drink from 2023-2050. 100/100

International Wine Report über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A

-- International Wine Report: The 2009 Château Cheval Blanc is an utterly striking wine for the ages and must be in the conversation for wine of the vintage. This immediately impresses with its utterly captivating aromatics of blackberries and ripe dark plums which are laces with roasted coffee, warm exotic spices, savory herbs and hints of charcoal nuances all bursting from the glass. On the palate this displays an absolutely incredible combination of concentration and precision. It goes on to impress with its gorgeous supple texture and remarkable finesse, as well as outstanding overall balance. It continues to thoroughly impress as layers of ripe dark fruits combine with toasted spices, roasted coffee and graphite that expand seamlessly through the finish which shows incredible length. The 2009 will certainly go down as one off the all-time great vintages for Cheval Blanc. Composed of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. 100/100

Gerstl über: Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe A
