Lobenberg: Keine 8 Tausend Flaschen Gesamterzeugung. Die wurzelechten Reben wachsen auf ca 1100 Meter Höhe im Uco-Valley auf nur gut 6 Hektar. Oft wird der Altamira von der internationalen Fachpresse zum Primus inter pares ernannt, ist er doch immer im fast biodynamischen Ausdruck und zugleich in der Balance so überaus gelungen. Man muss nicht darüber streiten, die drei so unterschiedlichen Weinberge von Achaval Ferrer ergeben zum Glück klar unterscheidbare, aber immer immens ausdrucksstarke, urwüchsige Malbec-Weine der Extraklasse. In Argentinien ganz vorne dabei und auch im weltweiten Vergleich eine Referenz. 97/100

Suckling über: Finca Altamira

-- Suckling: Sweet spices and blueberries, blackberries and blue flowers with hints of chocolate and deep, tangy oyster-shell minerality. The tannin is tight but extremely fine-grained with dense, concentrated fruit. Yet, it doesn’t feel heavy. There’s a fine, saline smack to the finish, too. Drink or hold. 97/100

-- Tim Atkin: Achával Ferrer’s vines are located in the high part of Paraje Altamira at 1,100 metres and were planted in 1950. The resulting wine is a delight, with svelte tannins, layers of blackberry and tangerine, chalky freshness and intensity and adroitly integrated new French oak. 2024-35. 96/100

-- Parker: The impressive 2019 Malbec Finca Altamira has finesse and intensity and the expression of this vineyard by the Tunuyán River with eight hectares that are going to be extended to nine, as one hectare was not planted. It has mineral expression, citrus freshness and the mid-palate complexity that has made Altamira famous. They introduced some used barrels in 2018; and in 2019 that percentage represented perhaps 15% of the barrels (and that will grow in future vintages), and the integration of the oak is better. Furthermore, they have shortened the time in barrel to 13 months, so they respect more the personality of the wine with more careful oaking. This is both powerful and elegant, perfumed, complex and serious with a very balanced palate and elegant and fine tannins that make it fine-boned, like the best vintages of this wine. 9,468 bottles were filled in November 2020. 96/100

Achaval Ferrer

Erst gegen Ende der 90er-Jahre wurde das kleine Mustergut (nur 150 Tausend Flaschen geplante Gesamtmenge) in Mendoza aus der Taufe gehoben. Das Weingut ist die Verwirklichung von Jugendträumen der in der Werbung arbeitenden Besitzer, weniger ein richtiges Kommerzprojekt.
