Lobenberg: In 2024 als Late Release aus der Domaine erhalten, weil er sich jetzt in einem schönen Trinkfenster präsentiert. 100 Prozent Syrah, biologische Weinbergsarbeit, Spontanvergärung als 50%ige Ganztraubenvergärung. Ausbau zu 50 Prozent in neuem Holz, damals noch etwas mehr als bei den alten Jahrgängen. Schon in der dunkelfruchtigen Nase eine grandiose Harmonie ausstrahlend. Satte dunkle Kirsche, Maulbeere, Darjeelingtee, schwarze Oliven, malzig, auch Schlehe. Zwar auch hier Kraut, Lorbeer und Wacholder aber alles in fruchtiger Hand. Diese fast fette Frucht ist trotz des maskulinen Touches deutlich rund, konzentrierte Walderdbeere mit Schlehe und Sauerkirscher unterlegt. Im Mund das ganze Cornas-Spektrum von Lorbeer bis Olive, von Lakritz zu Schoko und verbranntem Fleisch, Teer. Veilchen und Lavendel mit Fenchel und Anis. Ungeheuer präsent. Die rote dichte Frucht bindet alles sehr gut ein. Ein Powerwein mit wunderbarer Harmonie, der Zeit braucht und dem grandiosen 2010er nicht nachsteht. Toller Late Release, der noch immer eine lange Zukunft vor sich hat.

Black raspberries, blueberries, crushed rocks, liquid violets, black olives and new saddle leather all flow to a full-bodied, rich, concentrated Cornas that has sweet tannins (but plenty of them), impeccable balance and a killer finish. Buy it by the case (there’s a little more than 1,000 cases made) and enjoy bottles over the coming 2-3 decades.

-- Galloni: (raised for two years in barriques and demi-muids, 25 percent of them new) Dark purple. Explosively perfumed aromas of black and blue fruits, incense, potpourri and black pepper; a minerally nuance adds vivacity. Stains the palate with deeply concentrated, spice-accented blackberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors, picking up floral pastille and olive paste nuances with air. Velvety, slow-building tannins shape and add grip to an extremely long, sharply focused finish, where the mineral and floral notes echo strongly. The blend of richness and vivacity here is quite something.
