Lobenberg: 80 Prozent Grenache, 19 Prozent Cariñena und ein Prozent weiße Trauben. Unglaublich fein schon in der Nase. Dunkle Früchte mit hellen roten Früchten, mit heller Lakritze und ein bisschen weißer Schokolade. Von der Cariñena kommt ein bisschen rustikale, graphitlastige Garriguewürze. Im Mund hat der Wein ziemlich viel Grip, die Cariñena dominiert eindeutig die Grenache. Sehr viel Biss, sehr viel schwarze Würze, aber auch Salz, dazu intensive helle Lakritze. Ein ziemlicher Kracher mit sehr viel Garrigue, sehr viel Graphit. Gute Länge – spannender Wein! *** Der Wein stammt aus 13 verschiedenen kleinen Weinbergen auf rund 300 bis 400 Metern Höhe rund um Gratallops. Es ist also ein Village-Wein. Die Reben wachsen komplett auf grünem und rotbraunem Schiefer. Die Weinberge sind zwischen 24 und 80 Jahren alt. Der Wein hat 14 Volumenprozent Alkohol. Es wird organisch gearbeitet. Im Keller wird der Wein zu 50 Prozent entrappt. Anschließend wird die Maische in offenen 2000- und 3000-Liter Holzbottichen vergoren. Die Malo geschieht in Demi-muids mit 600 Litern Fassungsvermögen, anschließend wird der Wein abgezogen und in ovale 2200-Liter Holzfuder gelegt, sieben Monate später in Betonfässer. In heißen, trocknen Jahren wird der Wein schon nach einem Jahr abgefüllt.

Jahrgangsbericht

2023 war sehr warm, aber er ist deutlich kühler und balancierter als der noch heißere und trockenere 2022. Nicht so aufregend und extrem wie 2021, eher eine reife und harmonische Version von 2020. Und so ist 2023 durchaus eine Fortsetzung der so großen Jahrgänge seit 2019. Luis Gutierez, Parkers Mann für Spanien, fasst den Jahrgang 2023 anhand von Alvaro Palacios Weingütern ganz im Westen und ganz im Osten, somit Landesübergreifend so zusammen: 2023 was an even more generous crop than 2022 … the wines have better balance, and it doesn't feel like a warm year at all. In fact, the wines feel more like they come from a cool year. It's a vintage that has a tendency toward reduction, not as much as 2020, but still reductive. But it's an elegant, stony reduction...The quality of the 2023s is stunning. There is a level of precision, cleanliness, symmetry and elegance that, if the end of the élevage and the bottling goes as expected, I must conclude that 2023 might be the finest vintage ... There might be other individual wines that reach higher peaks, but as an overall portfolio, the vintage 2023 represents the strongest collection ever produced.

-- Decanter: This wine may be pale, but don't be deceived. It's full of energy, packed with aromas of wild brambles and flowers and a gentle suggestion of minerality. There's even more on the palate, a compote of Garnacha plums and Carignan blueberries. Long and ripe on the finish, it's essentially fresh, with lightly chewy tannin for texture.

-- Parker: The 2023 Gratallops is from an incredibly dry year in Priorat, when they had to really think about how to make the vines survive (irrigation!) with only 43 liters in the first four months of the cycle. It's lively and fruit-driven, and Álvaro Palacios says, '[It's] a miracle for the year we had.' 2023 was juicy and soft, mellow and clean, Mediterranean with notes of aromatic herbs. They had to irrigate some of the vineyards to keep the yields. It has 20% Cariñena, and they produced wine with seven vineyards instead of the usual 13. It is a fine and elegant vintage. They expect to fill some 12,500 bottles around May 2025, because they keep the wine in concrete after the élevage in oak.
