Heiner Lobenberg über:
Cobos 2018

Wohlig, samtig, genial! Absoluter Top Stoff von einem der besten Winzer Amerikas. 100/100

Suckling über: Cobos

-- Suckling: Incredible purity of fruit in the nose, offering crushed, perfectly ripe blackberries and currants with raspberries and citrus. Some black licorice, too. It’s full-bodied with density, precision and gorgeously fine tannins. Great length going on for minutes. A blend of mostly Chanares with some old-vine fruit from Marchiori and Sengeretti. Such precision to this. Tight now. Try after 2026. 99/100

Decanter über: Cobos

-- Decanter: Smells like a bonfire, stalky, green sichuan peppercorns, dark chocolate, vanilla, a touch of dark black cherry and bramble fruit but delicate, certainly not as expressive as it could be fruit wise with more of the savoury elements taking the fore. Sleek and well controlled on the palate, pure and soft, nicely plump but with a svelteness and wave of freshness. Clean with excellent tannins that support the black cherry, plum and blackcurrant fruit, giving overall structure frame and a coat the entire palate with juice and clove and liquorice-spiced minerality. I like the freshness and the cooling sensation you get on the finish. Nuanced, detailed and very well made. 96/100

Jane Anson über: Cobos

-- Jane Anson: The depth and clarity of the aromatics is striking, with dark spices, majoring on liqourice, turmeric and black pepper, alongside nutmeg and clove-spiced black cherry and damson fruits. Offers nuance and a ton of beauty. This is a no-till vineyard with naturally present grasses. Whole cluster, from one of the upper reaches of the Chanares vineyard, granite rock soils with limestone, Paul Hobbs director and owner, Andres Vignoni winemaker. 96/100

Galloni über: Cobos

-- Galloni: The 2018 Malbec Cobos is a blend of grapes from Los Arboles, Perdriel and Villa Bastías that spent 18 months in 63% new barrels. A dense, purplish red in the glass, the intense, extremely nuanced nose offers notes of rose, cherry, plum, herbs, lavender, lemon zest and graphite along with an odd whiff of stems. Potent and concentrated but in a relaxed, juicy way, it’s alluringly oxymoronic: muscular but compact, very juicy and long-lasting, but with the grace of the top ethereal wines. 96/100

Wine Spectator über: Cobos

-- Wine Spectator: Beguiling violet notes on the nose lead to intense raspberry, blueberry and wild spice flavors that show layers of richness. Offers seductive creaminess midpalate, with cherry pastry and mineral accents filling the plush finish. Best from 2022 through 2028. 50 cases imported. 96/100
